Freedom Bird

The bastards clipped my wings
as I slept
Mocking this bird that
ran to mimic flight
Laughing as I wept
So I stayed in the corner
forlorn & unkempt
My chosen lot

Oh, but they forgot
to clip deep
Fluttering to
forget the weep

I flew as high as I could
as any bird would
High enough
to touch the sun
Nose dive to earth
just for fun

Now this bird sits
Waiting on a limb
A branch so thin
My perch
Looking out
on the horizon
