It's on nights
Such as this
When a fellow survivor
Reaches out
Her unexpected
Outstretched hand
It's tonight that I
Remember
Just
How far I've come

I purchased my own car
Bought a new cell phone
One that I could finally
Call my own
Put my son in daycare
Stretched my financial means
To get somewhere
Purchased my own laptop
Started a blog
And reached for the top

None of that
Would have happened
Had I stayed
I created my own path
The stones
Carefully laid.
